Brief description of the project
In 2015 , thanks to Ángel's help , contact was initiated, and Guido, Lluisa, and Pastor James, the school's owner, had their first meeting. He informed us and showed us firsthand the school's needs in order to continue its development and daily activities for the more than 100 children attending kindergarten and primary school classes.
The “Ghana Smiles” project was created to raise awareness and funds to address many of these needs.
During the first few months, the contribution was substantial , covering building maintenance costs, the purchase of teaching materials, sports jerseys, bicycles for the teachers, and two small laptops, among other investments. The money was raised through crowdfunding and private donations.
Since 2016, we have continued working with Pastor James to address specific and urgent needs. These include the construction of a new classroom to expand our educational offerings . Also in 2016, the school began teaching upper elementary students , reaching nearly 200 students across all three educational levels by 2022 .
In 2023, another visit was made to the school, providing educational materials, sports jerseys, and toys for the younger children. During this visit , Pastor James also worked to identify current needs and review progress, and a new action plan for the short and medium term was defined.
Current status of the project: Working on and designing projects to meet more needs.
Partial project results: 20 actions already completed since 2015: Construction of classrooms and a storage room, purchase of teaching materials, donations of clothing and sports equipment, various repairs, purchase of two small computers, among other actions necessary to continue operating and expand the school so that it will have more than 200 students by 2023. Repair and reconstruction of all the school's roofs.
